Back in 2012 I was a supervisor on a shift team at the BBC. Over two months we ingested all news and current affairs shows from 1948 to 2011 (around 28,000 hours of video). I just found some old pics and figured some of you geeks out there might like a look.
The project was part of the now infamous Digital Media Initiative, but did result in all that content now being safe and readily available.
The setup was based on BBC R&D’s Ingex, with 24 A500Ps running 24/7.
Colour-coded PCs, decks and monitoring. All very clever.
